Each year the Major Donations Committee reviews local community-based projects or initiatives to make funding recommendations for grants over $10,000 for those that meet the charitable interests of our Club. Most of our donations traditionally range $10,000 - $25,000. We fund capital projects as well as programs or services.

Our Mission

We gather and review requests for financial assistance from Calgary non-profit agencies that support:

  • Children's programs
  • Youth at risk
  • Poverty reduction
  • Adult and child literacy
  • Seniors’ assistance
  • Mental health
  • Other community needs

The committee looks for proposals that will:

  • Impact local community needs
  • Have a sustainable impact beyond the life of the project
  • Be achievable without ongoing financial support from the Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown (“the Rotary Club”)
  • Be targeted to direct community benefit
  • Include financial statements
  • Where appropriate, provide opportunities for hands-on volunteer opportunities for members of the Rotary Club

We look especially for projects that:

  • Will leverage funds of the Rotary Club with those of other Rotary clubs, community or government funds or private donors
  • Will highlight the role of the Rotary Club so that its reputation may enable it to do more in the community
  • Either build on a prior relationship with the Rotary Club or bring us a new relationship
